Proverbs 24:21 My son, fear thou the LORD and the king: and meddle not with them that are given to change: For their calamity shall rise suddenly; and who knoweth the ruin of them both?
Daniel (Dan. 7:18) continues: “But the saints of the most High shall take the kingdom, and possess the kingdom for ever, even for ever and ever.”
The book of Revelation likewise declares that believers are made “kings and priests unto God” (Rev. 1:6). This points to the future reign of God’s people with Christ, when the authority of earthly kingdoms will ultimately give way to the righteous rule of Christ and His saints.
Therefore, when we see corruption, injustice, or wicked leadership, we should not conclude that it is our responsibility to personally overthrow every corrupt government. Our responsibility is to remain faithful to God within the circumstances in which He has placed us. We can pray, speak truth, obey the law where it does not conflict with God’s Word, defend those who are being wronged, and seek righteous reform. But we must leave the ultimate overthrow of evil kingdoms and the establishment of perfect government to Christ.
